About Me: Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. He was the tenth son of soap maker, Josiah Franklin. Benjamin's mother was Abiah Folger, the second wife of Josiah. In all, Josiah would father 17 children.

Josiah intended for Benjamin to enter into the clergy. However, Josiah could only afford to send his son to school for one year and clergymen needed years of schooling. But, as young Benjamin loved to read he had him apprenticed to his brother James, who was a printer. After helping James compose pamphlets and set type which was grueling work, 12-year-old Benjamin would sell their products in the streets.
    Music: There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    There's battle lines being drawn
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
    Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
    Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
Movies: The Lord said "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."
TV: So no one told you life was gonna be this way. Your job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's DOA. It's like you're always stuck in second gear, when it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year. But, I'll be there for you.

Likes: Are you ready to tell a certain woman you really like her? Consider these tips to help you express your feelings to a woman.

    1. Think about what you want to say, and consider when, where and how you're going to say it. Plan your strategy in advance to avoid any spur-of-the-moment slip-ups.

    2. Speak for yourself. Don't give someone else the opportunity to tell her about your feelings before you have the chance to talk to her personally.

    3. Choose your timing with care. Wait until the right moment. Don't blurt out your feelings in the middle of a crowded room or when she's rushing out the door.

    4. Select a private place to express your feelings. Don't make the announcement in front of a group. Wait until you have a chance to talk with her alone.

    5. Appeal to her sense of honesty and sincerity. Don't use the same old lines that she's heard a million times. Think about all the reasons why you really like her and tell her about those reasons in a sincere, honest manner.

    6. Consider the direct approach, such as, "You know, I really like spending time with you. In fact, I really like you...."

    7. Be original! If the thought of directly telling her about your feelings terrifies you, express your feelings in poem.
Dislikes: Definitions of dislike on the Web:

    1. disfavor: an inclination to withhold approval from some person or group

    2. a feeling of aversion or antipathy; "my dislike of him was instinctive"

    3. have or feel a dislike or distaste for; "I really dislike this salesman"

Vices: The popular one-hour police drama Miami Vice aired on NBC from 1984 to 1989. Miami Vice combined elements from traditional "cop shows" with an emphasis on high fashion, exotic locations, and music-video sequences. The show depicted an interracial pair of detectives who battled the narcotics trade in southern Florida. The series starred Don Johnson (1949?) and Philip Michael Thomas (1949?) as undercover detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Miami's glamorous beaches and resorts were contrasted with the city's under-belly of corruption, violence, and tragedy that resulted from drug trafficking.
Virtues: For many of us, the fundamental question of ethics is, "What should I do?" or "How should I act?" Ethics is supposed to provide us with "moral principles" or universal rules that tell us what to do. Many people, for example, read passionate adherents of the moral principle of utilitarianism: "Everyone is obligated to do whatever will achieve the greatest good for the greatest number." Others are just as devoted to the basic principle of Immanuel Kant: "Everyone is obligated to act only in ways that respect the human dignity and moral rights of all persons."
Heroes: The contributions of many American heroes in the 20th century are still recognized, but younger generations will soon need modern heroes to look up to as role models. Public figures in today's America would do well to embrace the same values and ideologies as the 10 persons selected by the author as 20th century heroes. A majority of the historians consulted for this project agreed that the following 10 persons, in no particular order, could be considered American heroes of the 20th century.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt
    Jackie Robinson
    John Glenn
    Lady Diana Spencer
    Colin Powell
    Benjamin Franklin
    Rosa Parks
    Mother Teresa
    John F. Kennedy
    Martin Luther King, Jr.

I knew that Duane Wade should have been voted the MVP.  If not him, then at least Dirk Nowitzki or Lebron James or Kobe Bryant even.  Anyone but Steve Nash.  Steve Nash is all offense, no defense, no heart, no legs, no ZIPPO!  Honestly, Dirk could win it every year with the things that he does.  Be good all!

    Chickens

    Saturday, July 8, 2006, 09:52 AM [NEWS]

Extra! Extra! Chickens are attacking the world.

Okay, they may not be attacking the world, but we have about 30 chickens and they are just insane.  I never grew up on a farm, so I didn't know how fun, crazy, and insane chickens are.  The hens have only one agenda - to eat.  The roosters have two agendas -  eat and procreate.  And when the procreation happens, it is TERRIBLE.  It should be a crime if you ask me.  Anyway, take it easy.

Rwandan Genocide From Wikipedia, the free encyclop

    Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 11:37 AM [Rwanda]

     Rwanda

The Rwandan Genocide was the slaughter of an estimated 800,000 to 1,071,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus, mostly carried out by two extremist Hutu militia groups, the Interahamwe and the Impuzamugambi, during a period of 100 days from April 6th through mid-July 1994.

For many, the Rwandan Genocide stands out as historically significant, not only because of the sheer number of people that were murdered in such a short period of time, but also because of the way that many Western countries responded to the atrocities. Despite intelligence provided before the killing began, and international news media coverage reflecting the true scale of violence as the genocide unfolded, virtually all first-world countries declined to intervene.

The United Nations did not authorize UNAMIR, a relief mission intended to aid in the implementation of the Arusha Accords, to act in bringing the killing to a halt. Despite numerous pre- and present-conflict warnings by Canadian Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire, the UN peacekeepers on the ground were forbidden from engaging the militias or discharging their weapons, except in self-defense. In the weeks prior to the attacks, the UN did not respond to reports of Hutu militias amassing weapons and rejected plans for a pre-emptive interdiction. This failure to act became the focus of bitter recriminations toward the United Nations, Western countries such as France and the United States, and individual policymakers, including Jacques-Roger Booh-Booh and President Clinton, who described US inaction as "the biggest regret of my administration."

The genocide was brought to an end only when the Tutsi-dominated expatriate rebel movement known as the Rwandese Patriotic Front, led by Paul Kagame, overthrew the Hutu government and seized power. Fearing reprisals, hundreds of thousands of Hutu genocidaires and other refugees fled into eastern Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). The violence and its memory have continued to affect the country and the region. Both the First and Second Congo Wars trace their origins to the genocide, and it continues to be a reference point for the Burundian Civil War.

Bosnian War - From Wikipedia, free encyclopedia

    Thursday, June 8, 2006, 07:36 PM [Bosnia]

    The

The war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (also refered to as: Bosnian International Conflict, Aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosnian Civil War) was an armed conflict which took place between March 1992 and November 1995. The war involved several ethnically defined factions within Bosnia and Herzegovina, each of which claimed to represent one of the country's constitutive peoples: Republika Srpska (Serbs), Herzeg-Bosnia (Croats) and Western Bosnia (Muslims by nationality) and the remnants of the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina (predominantelly Bosniaks). These factions changed their objectives and allegiances several times at various stages of the war. The war also included significant involvement of international armed forces namely UNPROFOR and NATO which was also the first military action of NATO troops in its history.

Since the war in Bosnia is a consequence of events in the wider region of former Yugoslavia, and due to the involvement of neighboring countries Croatia and Serbia and Montenegro, there is an ongoing debate about whether the conflict was a civil war or an aggression. Bosniaks typically claim that the war was an aggression from Serbia, while Serbs hold the view that it was a civil war involving only Bosnia's constituent nations. The involvement of NATO, during the 1995 Operation Deliberate Force against the positions of the Army of Republika Srpska make this war an internationalized conflict.

A trial is ongoing before the International Court of Justice, following a suit by Bosnia and Herzegovina against Serbia for genocide (see Bosnian genocide case at the International Court of Justice).

The war was brought to an end after the signing of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Paris on 1995-12-14. The peace negotiations were held in Dayton, Ohio, and were finalized on November 21, 2005. The accords are known as the Dayton Agreement.

The most recent research places the number of victims at around around 100,000-110,000 killed (civilians and military), and 1.8 million displaced.
